A Glimpse into January

Here's what's coming up in January:

Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting today: online essay class orientation. There's still time to sign up for this! Just check out the event page. The class is mostly online, but we are offering a 3-part face-to-face series: 1. Orientation. 2. More about essays. 3. Brainstorming methods. The first class will familiarize students with how the class works and how to access and share files. We will also dive into what an essay is and why we write them. The second class will offer more on essay-writing and explain the grading system for the class. We will also send every student home with an essay worksheet that should make organizing your essay a breeze!

We have offered the first two classes before, and they are certainly fun to teach, but we am super excited about the brainstorming class! Even if you aren't interested in essay-writing, we hope that many of you can make it to the brainstorming session! It's the best part of any project prep (imho). We're going to be trying out a few methods as a class, and it's open to everyone - whether they are in the online essay class or not. Check out the event page to register.

January 18: We will be singing at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan. We'd like to open this to one or two students that would like to play or sing a solo for the residents. We're there every month, so just contact us if this is something that interests you, and we'll get you on the schedule!

January 23: We are hosting a High School Seminar for homeschoolers. Kim Quon, regional director of FHE, will be presenting! She has several topics planned for the evening, including: what you need to know about keeping records, getting your high-schooler prepped for college, and more. If she has time, there will be a Q&A session following. This event is full, but if you are interested in future events, please contact me!

January 25: We're hosting our first Digital Recital Recording Party (otherwise known as YouTube Recital). This event is for our private piano and voice students, although we're hoping to record the workshop and share it online (or maybe even stream it live). We'll kick off with a pizza party, followed by the performance workshop. After that, we'll be playing and singing our recital pieces for each other. With parent approval, we'll be uploading the performances to YouTube. This will allow students to share with family and friends! When that portion wraps up, we'll play a few games and socialize a bit. We are hoping to make this an annual event! No registration needed. We know you you are. ;)

New classes in the works! This month, we are networking with two very special individuals, and we are hoping to bring new educational opportunities to our community. We're not 100% sure what the class offerings will consist of, but we're hoping to bring you an experienced art teacher, an experienced writing teacher for the younger grades, and more! If you have any classes you'd like to see, let us know, especially if you know someone who would love to have space for a small class (8-16 students).

We're running a promotion in January/February for teachers: classroom rental fee is the cost of one attendee, and approved free events are free to host! One-time events and recurring classes are both options.
