In Pursuit of Growth

 

Helping Growth Happen, in Sullivan, MO, and beyond!

In Italian, the word “crescenza” means growth. We chose this word for several reasons.

 

#1. It represents what we strive for across all disciplines. This studio aims to help developing musicians, writers, grammarians, and mathematicians achieve many small successes while growing ever closer to their overall goals. Growth in one discipline fosters an attitude of success that can lead to growth in other areas.

 

#2. It defines our own goals as teachers who enjoy studying, practicing, researching pedagogical methods, creating new materials, and striving for growth as professional music, math, and language-arts teachers.

 

#3. It applies to all facets of a person’s being. Music students, for example, will develop:

-Physical growth (as their muscles learn to produce desired motions) 

-Mental growth (as they learn to mentally play through a piece before touching the keys, as they think and react while playing it, and as students learn new symbols, terms and skills) 

-Emotional growth (as they learn how to deal with mistakes and successes) 

-Spiritual growth (as they humbly and sincerely share their music with family, friends, communities, and congregations) 

-Communication (as they confer ideas through dynamics, posture, and articulation; and as they discuss musical elements with their teacher, parents, and peers) 

-Focus (as they learn a new piece or perform a familiar one) 

-Attention (as they hear mistakes and learn to self-correct) 

-Determination (as they resolve to learn a song or passage that challenges them)

-Cooperation (as they begin playing duets and working in ensemble with each other)
